An Introduction to Dog Sledding

Experience the joy of driving your own dog sled through the beautiful mountain scenery of Hardangervidda

Curious about dog sledding? On this tour, you’ll experience the thrill of driving your own team of six enthusiastic Alaskan Huskies. This is a great introduction to dog sledding for beginners and families, and no previous experience is required.

About the Tour

  • Distance: Approx. 7 km
  • Time spent dog sledding: Approx. 45 minutes
  • Total duration: Approx. 1.5 hours

We begin with instructions and a demonstration of how to control and handle your dog sled. Then we set off through beautiful, gently rolling mountain terrain.

Two people share one sled. One person stands on the runners at the back and drives, while the other sits in the sled as a passenger. You can switch places along the way so that both of you have the opportunity to try driving your own dog team.

Would you prefer to enjoy the ride as a passenger?

That’s absolutely fine! You can choose to sit in the sled for the entire trip instead of driving yourself. Please let us know in advance so that we can make the necessary arrangements.

Our professional guide leads the way with their own dog team, and your dogs naturally follow the team in front. This means you don’t need any previous dog-sledding experience to enjoy the tour.

A Great Experience for the Whole Family

This tour is ideal for families and anyone who wants to try dog sledding for the first time.

Children under the age of 4 can join the tour free of charge and sit in the sled with an adult or an older sibling. Please contact us before booking if you would like to bring a child under 4 years old.

A minimum of 2 adults is required for the tour to take place.

Clothing and Equipment

To ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience, it’s important to dress appropriately for Norwegian winter conditions. Make sure you bring warm winter clothing, a hat and mittens or gloves, and ensure that children are dressed warmly enough.

We have warm jackets, winter suits and boots available to borrow if needed.

You’re also welcome to bring some extra drinks or snacks for the trip.
